The French are so much more poetic about food than us. Amande is French for almond, and that's what you can taste in this medium sized clam (about three times the size of a cockle). It has a smooth shell with exciting orange and purple flashes so it's pretty to look at too. So what do we Brits call it? Wait for it... the dog-cockle. Cook it like any other clam.
