Most unusually, these are NOT in a can, but just as they came out of the sea. Sardines and pilchards are essentially the same fish. In fact, the fish landed in Cornwall for centuries and which has always been known as a pilchard, is now usually marketed as a "Cornish sardine".... someone thinks sardine sounds sexier. But we're sticking with the age-old name. Quite a bit bigger than the Portuguese sardines we sell here.
