Albacore tuna - also known as atun blanco and bonito del norte - is a very fine fish, generally reckoned to be a cut above the yellowfin tuna. The flesh is much lighter in colour and finer. We were bowled over by the quality of these steaks from British Columbia (west coast of Canada) where 150 family-owned boats catch albacore every summer under programmes certified by the Marine Stewardship Council and Seafood Watch. The BC Tuna Fishermen's Association website is worth a visit, especially this page. There is a wonderful recipe for tuna loin with a crust here on the Seaforager website.

Our albacore tuna are caught from a sustainable fishery in the North East Pacific Ocean. They are caught using hook and line, a very selective, non-destructive fishing method. This fishery has been purposefully landing less than the maximum sustainable yield to manage the fishery and positively grow the albacore stock.
