Bluefin tuna belly meat
- Order number: 806955
- Only a fraction of the price of caviar!
- XL tin (3x normal sardine sized tin)
- Gorgeous belly muscle
- Drained weight 210g
OK - £39 for a tin of fish is going it some. But the tin is much bigger than normal ventresca tins (we think that's because bluefin tuna is much bigger than bonito tuna, so a reasonable piece of the belly meat just comes out plain bigger). The price per mouthful is only about 30% more than ventresca de bonito. A tin contains one or two pieces of quite dark and dense but seriously luscious meat. This is as close to toro as you will easily get outside the most expensive sushi bar and would make a great gift for a gourmet.
Regarding colours... what we know as bluefin tuna is in Italy known as tuna rosso (as in the colour of the meat). That's why it says tonno rosso on the tin.
Our sustainability rating 7/10
After years of fishing restrictions (not to mention infractions), bluefin tuna is making a meaningful comeback in the Mediterranean.
Belly of Bluefin tuna, olive oil, salt.
