Many attempts have been made to put this fabulous French ’solid soup’ recipe into a tin, but this must be one of the most serious. It’s from the German masters of fish soups, Jurgen Langbein and comes in a baked beans size tin. Over one-third of the ingredients (by weight) are fish. The mussel shells in the picture are just a romantic touch - although there are plenty of mussels in this soup, all their shells have been removed.

Water, Alaska salmon (20%), onions, mussels (7%), deep sea prawns (7%), white wine, palm fat, crustaceans, leeks, tomato purée, spice (contains mustard), herbs, celery, horseradish, onion extract, salt, wheat flour, sugar, edible starch, modified maize starch
Acidifiers: citric acid. Dye: beta-carotene, paprika extract. Flavour Enhancer: monosodium glutamate, aroma (contains lactose)
