Buckling is hot-smoked herring that has had the head and guts removed but still contains the roe. It is ready to eat, just defrost and enjoy! You can eat it cold or if you prefer, you can heat it through. Either way, it's a delicious little lunch treat. Just pop it on some crusty bread, or even blend it into a pate and serve with some crackers. Or break it up a bit and use it in a salad with some horseradish. 

 

Sustainability – Our rating  8/10

These are produced from Norwegian herring. Norway has one of the world’s most advanced fishing sustainability setups. MSC certification was withdrawn from the fishery in 2020 due to Norway and its neighbours not having a sharing agreement. However, ICES considers the stock very healthy.  (updated Mar 2022)
