This is the season to be jolly! Christmas is a time to treat yourself and indulge in the tastiest foods you might not normally eat. So why not spread some Christmas cheer this year by hosting your very own Christmas party!

There are a few essential ingredients needed to ensure that your Christmas party is a hit, and food is one of them. In fact, it's probably the most important!

Christmas parties are a tradition of sharing warmth and spreading happiness, both of which are needed now more than ever. Whether it’s an intimate, casual or a large gathering of friends and family, guests will expect that you’ll offer them both something to eat and something to sip on… so no pressure!

Food hits all the sensors. So, even those who have one drink too many, will remember how good or bad the food was. Also, remember, in this world of Instagram and Facebook, pretty much everything you serve up at a party is going to get the festive filter treatment and find its way onto social media!

Food planning and prep can take up the biggest chunk of both your time and budget, but it doesn't have too. Read on for eight delectable and easy Christmas canapé and buffet ideas you should consider for your Christmas party.

Salmon Terrine

The luxurious salmon terrine. Leave guests breathless, first with its knockout looks, then with its rich, delectable taste. Jewel-coloured slices of smoked salmon encase a mixture of creamy, smoked salmon pâté. Finish with a sprinkling of salmon roe if you’re feeling particularly decadent, and serve with crisp rye toasts and a peppery watercress salad.

Prawn Cocktail

We think that sometimes a prawn cocktail gets a bit of a bad reputation for being old fashioned, but we’d argue it’s a classic! The sweet and sour combination works so well with juicy prawns. Feed a crowd with bite-sized prawn cocktail canapés - crisp, fresh bites lightened up with cocktail sauce, iceberg lettuce and avocado on wafer-thin crispbreads. The classic prawn cocktail, reinvented as an easy canapé.

Oysters Rockefeller

Simple and sophisticated - This famous entreé  will show your loved ones how much you appreciate them! We’re big oyster fans, raw, baked, plain or with toppings...not forgetting to pop the champagne! Oysters Rockefeller are baked oysters with a delicious topping. It’s a fairly simple dish to prepare, despite its sophistication. Oysters on the half shell are topped with a butter sauce, finely chopped spinach, and breadcrumbs, then delicately baked.

Smoked Salmon Blinis with Keta

The canapé classic of salmon, cream cheese and dill blini topped with an elegant flourish of keta. These can be rustled up in less than 20 minutes using four ingredients. A delicious party canapé.

Smoked Salmon Mousse Vol au Vents

These canapés are a terrific combo. Wonderful to pass around at parties, making it the ideal finger food! They can be made in a flash using prepared puff pastry cases, filled with a mixture of smoked salmon mousse or pate, dressed with keta & dill.

Arancini balls

These crispy little rice balls are a truly delicious Sicilian style snack. They're packed with mozzarella, our very popular smoked salmon and slightly sweet and herby risotto filling, all inside a parmesan coating. A star appetiser at your Christmas party and requires very little preparation.

Shellfish Platter Smoked

Nothing says Christmas like an elegant seafood platter. A selection of the very best quality seafood, all prepared and ready to eat, making it the ultimate crowd pleaser. Firstly, purchase yourself a nice round serving platter and place washed dill, lemon wedges, a generous tablespoon of rock salt, a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds to create a wreath shape. The show stopping platter starts with dressed crab, prawns, lobster halves, scallops, oysters, clams, mussels, smoked salmon…extend that generosity to supply finger bowls and hand towels to let your guests know you really care.

Salmon Side/Whole Salmon Fillet

A whole marinated salmon side in fruity clementine and pomegranate brings out all the sweetness and colours of the fish. It's obvious why this is a festive favourite, as it's an impressive centerpiece. Fragrant, fruity flavours complement salmon….
