Cod has been the most popular fish in the UK and in most of the rest of Europe for at least 200 years. Its brilliant white sweet-tasting meat can be cooked in many ways. Cod has experienced a few sustainability scares over the years but as it is very prolific (a large female cod can lay ten million eggs a year) it tends to bounce back in the end.
