ABC+ Cuttlefish à Algarvia
- One 120g easy-open tin of cuttlefish à algarvia, in olive oil with garlic, coriander, piri-piri, white wine, lemon and bay
- Warm gently and serve over boiled potatoes, the way it's eaten in the Algarve, or cold on bread as tapas
- A light lunch for one, or a tapas plate for two
Cuttlefish à algarvia: the Algarve's way with cuttlefish, made with garlic, coriander and a little piri-piri, and packed in olive oil. It's a dish you'll find on menus all along Portugal's south coast, usually with boiled potatoes and a glass of something cold. This tin is by ABC+, the newest brand from the José Gourmet family, packed in Portugal.
Cuttlefish is the overlooked cousin of squid: a little firmer and a little sweeter. British boats land plenty of it in the Channel, and most of it is sent abroad, because the Portuguese, Spanish and Italians know what to do with it and, on the whole, we don't. This tin is the easy way in. (Wear an apron if you're warming it; olive oil and coriander travel.)
Each tin carries around 19g of protein. We've been trading for 25 years, long enough to be quietly pleased whenever someone tries something new.
